Expert sport psychology for athletes, parents and coaches.

Sporting Mindset is a performance-focused sport psychology service dedicated to helping athletes strengthen the mental side of their game. I support individuals who want to improve confidence, manage pressure, overcome setbacks, and perform consistently when it matters most.
Founded by Stephen Renwick, an experienced psychologist and sport psychology consultant , Sporting Mindset combines sport psychology, ACT and practical, real-world strategies. My approach is structured, supportive, and tailored to each individual — whether you are competing, returning from injury, or striving to unlock your full potential.
Because strong performance starts with a strong mindset.

Sport psychology focuses on the mental and emotional factors that influence performance, wellbeing, and consistency in sport. While physical training develops strength, skill, and fitness, sport psychology develops the mindset required to perform under pressure.
Athletes often face challenges such as nerves before competition, dips in confidence, overthinking, loss of form, injury setbacks, or difficulty coping with expectations. Sport psychology provides structured tools and strategies to help athletes respond more effectively to these challenges.
This might include developing:
At Sporting Mindset, my approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for sport. ACT does not aim to eliminate nerves or self-doubt — because in elite sport, those experiences are normal. Instead, ACT helps athletes develop psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present, accept internal discomfort, and commit to effective action aligned with their values.
Rather than fighting thoughts like “What if I mess up?”, athletes learn to notice those thoughts, create space from them, and refocus on purposeful action.
The aim is not to feel perfect.
The aim is to perform effectively — even when pressure is present.

At Sporting Mindset, my philosophy of practice is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Rather than trying to eliminate nerves, doubt, or pressure, ACT teaches athletes how to respond to these experiences more effectively.
Sport is unpredictable. Thoughts and emotions will show up — especially in high-pressure moments. Through ACT-informed work, I help athletes develop psychological flexibility: the ability to stay present, act in line with their values, and commit to effective behaviour even when discomfort is present.
Instead of fighting thoughts like “What if I fail?” we build the skills to notice them, create distance from them, and refocus on what truly matters in performance.
The goal is not to feel perfect.
The goal is to perform with clarity, courage, and purpose — regardless of what shows up internally.

Through Sporting Mindset, I have worked with male athletes competing at elite and professional levels across a range of high-performance environments. My experience includes (but not limited to) professional football, EuroPro Tour golf, powerlifting, basketball, martial arts, boxing, and elite-level gymnastics.
These sports demand exceptional mental resilience — performing under scrutiny, managing selection pressure, returning from injury, and delivering when results matter most. I understand the psychological demands of elite competition: identity tied to performance, fine performance margins, and the relentless pursuit of improvement.
My practice is built around transferable psychological skills that apply across high-performance sport — including focus under pressure, emotional regulation, values-driven action, and competitive consistency.
At Sporting Mindset, the emphasis is always on building a mindset that performs — regardless of the arena.

Because strong performance starts with a strong mindset.
